Who We Are

We are a group of students from Oak Hill Middle School working to install and maintain a garden for the school. We began as a lunch-group learning about the global goals, mainly climate change, and were determined to do something to impact the local community. Now, we have a fully functioning garden that we have maintained even during Covid-19. We also hope to raise awareness of our local community about gardening and making the world a better place.

What We Do

The OHMS Garden began with an eager group of 6th-grade students in 2019. We enlarged and refurbished the current garden, a run down eye-sore in the front of the school to a beautiful, sustainable garden. This year, we have a compost bin, for which we collected during school lunches. We have recently added three new wooden beds and a bench.

I’ve been gardening for 1 year.
My favorite part about gardening is watching and waiting because it’s interesting to see how it ends up.
Since I’m part of the OHMS Garden Club, I wish to do whatever the group wants me to do with the garden and I particularly like to plan.

I've been gardening for as long as I can remember, I enjoy caring for my house plants. My favorite part of gardening is being outside, and caring for living things and watching them change and grow over time.

I didn't go to the garden club because there was a badminton club before, but now that the badminton club is gone, I joined the garden club. What I did gardening was to help my dad what he was raising, and what I like about gardening is to see what I have grown and to eat what I have grown.

I joined the garden club because gardening with people is nice, relaxing, and it builds interaction with others. It's fun being able to pick fruits and vegetables for people to enjoy. I haven’t gardened that long, but over the years I help my mother pick tomatoes and other things in her garden for some time. My favorite part of gardening is picking the plants, being relaxed, and being able to interact with people and friends.

I've been gardening around my house for about 2-ish spring seasons. I garden because I love watching the seed sprout and grow into something beautiful, and although it is a lot of responsibility, this plant's life is in your hands, and the end is rewarding. I joined garden club to learn about how to better care for my plants and to meet new people.

I joined the garden club in November. I like gardening because plants are really peaceful and calm. I've been gardening for a while.
